Ahhhhh! Naptime! I can finally sit and write.
I've been meaning to start blogging for some time now. About 9 months to be honest. That was when we became the parents of a beautiful little boy that we adopted from China.
We, my wife Kathy and I, decided to call him Logan. My friends affectionately refer to him as The Dragon Prince.
Now you may be asking "How did the get a boy from China?" Those familiar with adoptions from China know that it's usually the girls they give up. Well about a year and a half into the adoption process, our agency asked us if we'd consider a "special needs" adoption. They gave us a list of 7 children ranging in age from about a year to seven years old. There were a couple of kids with cleft lips, a little boy with a post-op heart defect, and the youngest on the list, a little boy with albinism.
An albino Chinese person? I'd heard of albinism, seen people with albinism in passing, but didn't know it occurred in Asians. My curiosity was peaked.
Kathy and I asked to see the files from all seven children, hoping that we could make a decision. The agency told us kindly, but firmly, it was one file at a time. So after a little discussion, we asked for the file of the youngest child, the little boy with albinism.
I will never, EVER forget the moment Kathy and I opened the email and saw his little picture. I now firmly believe in love at first sight. We cried when we saw his little face knowing that we'd found our son.
Logan has been with us since November 2, 2009, a date that we will always celebrate. That is of course in addition to his birthday, and all the other fun holidays. People often tell me that he is very lucky that we adopted him. I tell people that my family and I, we're the lucky ones.
That's all I wanted to write for the moment, just to get started on my blog. As a Stay At Home Dad, I have lots to do. Promise I'll write more soon & might even bring some of my notes from Logan's recent adventures over from my FaceBook page.
TTFN :)
